DIY Anthropologie-Inspired Pearl Choker - Choker Comparison - jamiebhannigan.com

This easy-to-make necklace is right on trend with the 90’s choker resurgence. To make this necklace, inspired by the Pearled Choker at Anthropologie ($48), you will need:
• A length of flat suede or leather cord (I think this is closest to what I used)
• Strong needle (like a tapestry needle)
• Gold wire – 24 gauge
• 1 pearl bead (mine was around 8mm I think)
• Lobster clasp
• 2″ of chain
• Scissors

Begin by cutting a length of cord to fit around your neck. Fold the cord and cut it into two equal halves. Use the tapestry needle to poke a hole in one end of one of the pieces of cord.

Thread a 3-4″ piece of wire through the hole you just poked. Create a wrapped loop and trim the excess.

Thread your pearl bead onto the remaining wire. Using your needle, poke a hole in the other piece of cord. Thread the wire through the hole and create another wrapped loop, connecting both pieces of cord to the pearl bead.

At this point, I wrapped the necklace around my neck to measure. I trimmed quite a bit from both pieces of cord so that both pieces didn’t entirely connect on their own. If you make them too long, you won’t have a snug fit once you add your clasp.

Poke a hole in one of the remaining ends of the cord. Thread a 2″ piece of wire through it, creating a wrapped loop to attach the clasp. Repeat on the other side to attach the chain.
