So this tutorial is a bit different from the ones I usually do, as it requires a 3D printer to make the main components of the necklace. I’ve experimented a bit with printing jewelry components, so when I saw this necklace from J.Crew, I knew it was a perfect opportunity to try again.
If you have a 3D printer, I’ve included the file I created here for you to use. I printed my pieces with a Makerbot Replicator Mini using True Red filament. My settings were 10% infill and 3 shells at 0.20mm layer height.
To make this necklace, you will need:
• 5 3D printed flowers
• Gold chain
• Clasp
• Jump rings
• 5 Rhinestones
• Rhinestone glue
• Chain nose pliers
Once your pieces are printed, you will need to remove the raft from the piece. I use spring-loaded precision scissors to help with this process, and sometimes my Dremel if necessary.
Open a jump ring and link it through one of the built-in hooks on a flower. Link it to another flower and close. Repeat until all the flowers are connected with jump rings.
Place a dot of glue on the center of each flower. Set a rhinestone in the glue and allow to dry.
On the last two flowers, attach two lengths of gold chain to your liking. Mine are about 5″ on each side. Use a jump ring to attach the clasp to each end of the chain.
